This article outlines the recommended steps for troubleshooting when the Socket Mobile Scanner is not performing as expected while using the RICS>Checkout app. For best results, complete all steps outlined below.
Step 1: Forget the Socket Mobile Scanner From Your Device
- Navigate to the device's Bluetooth Settings
- Locate the Socket Mobile Scanner in the list of paired devices
- Tap Forget or Remove the device
Step 2: Factory Reset the Socket Mobile Scanner
- Power on the Scanner
- Press and hold the scan button
- While holding the scan button, quickly press the power button once
- Continue holding the scan button until you hear one beep.
- Release the scan button after hearing the beep
- The Scanner will perform a series of 5 beeps and power off, indicating a successful factory reset.
Step 3: Download the Socket Mobile Companion App
Apple iOS Version -
- Open the Apple App Store on your device
- Search for 'Socket Mobile Companion'
- Click 'Get' on the Socket Mobile Companion App
Windows OS Version
- Click to visit Socket Mobile Support
- Download the appropriate version of the Socket Mobile Companion App based on your Windows PC Specifications (Note: The SocketMobileCompanion-64Bit Version will be the most commonly used version for a Windows 10/11 PC)
- Open the Downloaded file
- When the screen below opens, click 'Next'
- Follow the prompts to complete the Socket Mobile Companion Setup Wizard installation
Step 4: Pair the Socket Mobile Scanner Using the Socket Mobile Companion App

- Open the Socket Mobile Companion App
- Tap 'Add a Reader'
- Select 'Other Reader'
- Scan the barcode to Activate Pairing Mode, the scanner will perform a series of 3 beeps
- Tap 'Next Step'
- Select Your Reader, the scanner will beep once indicating it's connected
- Scan a barcode to check that the scanner is working, data will appear in the box
- Tap 'Next' if the barcode displays correctly
- Open the RICS>Checkout app and confirm that the scanner is working as expected
Windows OS version
- Click the arrow icon in your Windows Task Bar to show Hidden Icons
- Click on the Socket Mobile Companion icon seen below
- Click on Setup
- Follow the instructions included in the Socket Mobile Companion App to pair the scanner to your device.
- Open the RICS>Checkout app and confirm that that scanner is working as expected
